Many know him as “Brother Charles.” He is an internationally known author, Bible teacher, motivational speaker, and pastor, who has been in ministry since 1955. His humor and story-telling often carry a deeper message that is prophetic in its timeliness and timelessness.
Born in New Orleans in 1937, Charles grew up as the son of a Baptist pastor in southern Louisiana, and then later in southern Alabama. In 1964, he and his church were swept up in what became known as the Charismatic Renewal Movement. Soon, he became a pioneer and leader in the movement, traveling around the world and teaching thousands of people.
In 1969, he became part of the founding editorial board of New Wine Magazine, an international publication dedicated to Christian growth. Other notable Bible teachers associated with New Wine include Don Basham, Ern Baxter, Bob Mumford and Derek Prince.
In 1973, Charles and a team of pastors founded Covenant Church of Mobile, Alabama, where small, house fellowship groups played a vital role in the life of the church. These groups were dedicated to building strong organic relationships, not only among Christians, but also reaching out to family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers with the love and Good News of Jesus Christ. In 1985, out of a strong emphasis on praise and worship, Covenant Church of Mobile and New Wine gave birth to Integrity Music, which is now the largest praise and worship company in the world.
Integrity Music has now become Integrity Media, a multi company group producing music, publishing and films. New Wine ceased publication in 1986, and Charles launched a magazine known today as One-to-One, which focuses on “Extending the kingdom of God…one person at a time.”
Charles continues to serve as Editor-in-Chief of One-to-One™ magazine, and is a featured writer in every issue. Under the banner of CSM Publishing, One-to-One and its related website, tapes, books, videos, and monthly Pastoral Letters now reach more than 70 nations worldwide.
Charles is the author of numerous books, including Courageous Living and The Challenge to Care, and he was the Senior Editor of The Covenant & the Kingdom Bible study curriculum. Charles served as a contributor to the commentary for the popular Spirit-Filled Life Bible.
Charles has logged more than 3 million of miles of travel, sharing the Gospel of Christ’s Kingdom and ministering across the globe. Charles resides with his wife, Carolyn, in the Mobile, Alabama area and continues to speak extensively worldwide. Charles and Carolyn have three adult children and eight grandchildren.
