December 2008
Dear Friends,
True happiness can be found in any situation when we see God is at work! My husband, Enrique, is a big fan of Paul in the Bible. He loves to read in Philippians and really gets excited by the strength of Paul. Enrique says Paul was a real man because not only did he rejoice in the good times but the bad times as well. He even talked of rejoicing in prison. Imagine that!
Many people suffer in the world and most of us go through hard times, but what attitude do we have when life looks grim?
We have a lady in our Bible study group who faithfully comes with her two daughters every Friday night. She sits very quietly, never complaining and always listening contently. She really began to be on our hearts, so Enrique said, “I think we should do something for her.”
We all went out and bought her a big bag of rice and beans and several more bags of groceries. We didn’t want to embarrass her so we gave her the bags of food at the end of the meeting. Her eyes were filled with tears and gratefulness was written all over her face. Her ten year old daughter ran up to Daniela, our oldest daughter, and asked, “Why did you give to us?” “Did you know we have not had a meal in days?” “My father is sick and cannot work,” she said. She hugged Daniela as if she would never let go! Daniela was so touched. She cried on the way home. “I would have never known, Poppi” she said. “They are always so happy and they never complain.”
When we know God is at work, it helps us get through the tough times without complaining and we see His goodness!
Christmas is such a joyous time. When we give to others, many times we are more blessed than they are. Our lives are changed when we reach out to someone in need.
Daniela’s heart has been so touched and blessed by the children she is working with during our Bible study. We see how this has helped change her life in many ways as she focuses on others and not just her own life. She has always struggled in school, because as a very young girl, she was forced to go out and work for her family. She wanted me to share with you this year, after very much hard work, she has the third-highest grades in her class and is passing with flying colors! We are so grateful to God for his faithfulness in her life.
We have been so blessed by you. Sometimes we wonder if we will be able to meet all our needs and the children we help, and you reach out to us and we always make it through. We appreciate so much your faithfulness. Please continue to pray we will meet all of our financial needs, and give as the Lord leads. December is a very significant month for us.
We pray you will have a wonderful and blessed Christmas this year!!
Much Love,
Enrique and Charlyn Mejia
